Directed by Sam Rush

From Carissa Dagenais, ’13

brought to you by: New Century Theatre

about the production: NCT is proud to produce the Valley premier of this 2010 Tony award winning play that the NY Times called “Intense and exciting…a study in artist appreciation, a portrait of an angry and brilliant mind that asks you to feel the shape and texture of thoughts…” RED is set in the 1958 art studio of renowned abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko. Commissioned to create a series of murals for the famed Four Seasons restaurant, Rothko struggles to complete them while dealing with the ever increasing questioning of his young assistant. Forced to examine his motives for creation, his place in the pantheon of great artists and the decline of his talent, Rothko finds himself in an agonizing battle of self worth and relevance. RED is a luminous, electrifying and powerful play of soaring ideas and raw passion that can’t be missed.
